The first residents have moved into 210 Balmacewen Road and further bookings are invited. This will be the eighth Abbeyfield House in New Zealand and the second to be established on an Occupation Right Agreement basis which means that residents purchase the right to occupy their suite and then pay a weekly sum to cover all essential expenses such as rent, power food and the services of a sleep-over housekeeper, who provides the meals and does the shopping and cleaning of the communal rooms.
Abbeyfield’s philosophy is to provide small homely accommodation units, with a great deal of personal freedom combined with safely and companionship.
It is a region of Abbeyfield Nea zeland.
Abbeyfield is a not-for-profit organisation providing companionship and an affordable home for older people.
The Abbeyfield method of operation is to promote and establish local community-based and volunteer-led Abbeyfield Societies. They, in turn, create and manage local Abbeyfield Houses providing lonely older people a dignified way of life at a weekly housekeeping charge affordable from state sourced welfare payments or the equivalent.
To be the most respected and successful community volunteer provider of locally based, affordable, family-styled housing for lonely older people who seek independence, companionship and safety in New Zealand.
