Barnsley based Action Space Mobile is a community arts organisation that has been driving the arts since 1968. We deliver a wide range of visual and performance arts workshops in schools and colleges and for community groups tailored to their needs based on the belief that arts activity can change lives.

In order to fulfil our aims, we utilise the skills of our freelance artistic team whose talents span visual arts, craft, movement, dance, music (instrumental, vocal and compositional), storytelling, puppetry, film and digital projections.

The core work of our organisation, and what we are best known for, is our creative work with adults and children with learning disabilities. This is exemplified in our three long standing and ongoing projects:  In the Boat and Cross the Sky theatre companies for adults with disability, based in Sheffield and Barnsley respectively, and our Visibilityschool holiday arts programme for children with disability and their non-disabled friends/siblings which is run in Sheffield, Barnsley and Wakefield.

We work with many people during the course of a year on a variety of projects

Commissioned work comes from a variety of sources: County & Borough Councils (Barnsley and Sheffield in particular) – eg Youth Services, Social Services, schools, libraries, museums and galleries; Affiliated Organisations (eg Mencap and Barnardos) and organisations who work with disability.

We do not just work in the immediate locality in which we are based, but regionally, nationally and internationally. We work wherever we are commissioned or asked to.
