The Alabama Coalition Against Rape is a statewide nonprofit organization working to prevent sexual violence in the State of Alabama. Since its inception in 1995, ACAR has utilized its voice to advocate for the rights of countless victims and affect critical change through its active role in public policy, education and training.
Specifically, ACAR works:
– To improve treatment of and services to sexual assault victims
– To increase the reporting of sexual assaults
– To increase public awareness of sexual assault
– To improve investigation and prosecution of sexual assault
At the heart of ACAR’s success is the network of rape crisis centers who provide caring and quality service to survivors of this devastating crime. Highly skilled staff or volunteers are available 24-hours a day to offer confidential crisis assistance through the crisis line, hospital or police accompaniment. Counseling and advocacy services are also available to help survivors and their families through their recovery process. In addition, our centers work tirelessly in their own communities to create public awareness and educate on the facts about sexual violence.
