Alderley Edge Wilmslow and District Footpaths Society is

– to secure and maintain the free, uninterrupted and responsible use of all public rights of way, byways and other ways, and to preserve all commons, village greens, roadside strips and any other land subject to open space restrictions – particularly within our area, viz North East Cheshire and Southern Greater Manchester

– to assist Local Authorities, or other public bodies, to secure rights of way and rights over open spaces, for the use and enjoyment of the public

– to promote arrangements with landowners for the opening, for use of the public, of places of natural beauty or open spaces and recreation grounds

– to have recorded on Ordnance Survey maps all public rights of way, common land and open spaces within our area and to maintain the Society’s maps containing such information

– to obtain the provision and maintenance of footbridges, fingerposts and waymarkers, stiles on footpaths and gates on bridleways, etc

In pursuit of these objectives we organise a footpath walk on every Sunday morning of the year, with the aim of ensuring that every part of the public footpath network in our locality is periodically visited and examined.
