Alternatives Federal Credit Union is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), dedicated to building wealth and creating economic opportunity for under-served people and communities.

CDFIs operate under two principles: 1) that low income communities can be developed through self help and 2) that this development effort can be self sustaining.

The Alternatives Credit Union is no ordinary financial institution. We are a community development credit union, member owned, locally controlled and self supporting. Our purpose is to meet the financial needs of the members of our community. We believe that by controlling the flow of funds within a small community, the community can build itself to suit its own needs and be more self-reliant.

Socially responsible, community-oriented programs include Individual Development Accounts (IDA), which assists low income participants by matching savings to pay for homes/education/small businesses, and Community Partnership Lending (CPL), which partners with non-profits to expand lending to under-served clients.
