[imgur:6.jpg:]The Ambassadors’ Girls’ Scholarship Program is a key component of the U.S. President’s Africa Education Initiative and is funded by USAID. Implementing the program in 12 countries, World Education is addressing the constraints to girls’ participation, retention, and achievement in school.

These constraints include financial and opportunity costs, socio-cultural factors such as early marriage, and the devastating impact of HIV and AIDS on girls and their families. AGSP provides comprehensive support for girls’ education in the form of school scholarships, mentoring, and parent and community awareness programs to promote and support girls’ education. Scholarships are intended to ensure access to educational opportunities, and reflect the needs within each country.

The Ambassadors’ Girls’ Scholarship Program scholars featured in these photos and in the corresponding book of postcards are just a few of the girls whose lives have changed because of the work we do. We thank the girls and their families for telling their stories and the U.S. government for supporting these efforts.

Rooted in basic education and literacy, World Education uses education to help people improve health, economic, civil, and social conditions in more than 25 countries around the globe.

World Education programs help children enroll and stay in school, and help women gain access to or create new educational, financial, and social resources in their communities. Our work ensures that girls and women have equal access to basic education, are able to make informed decisions about their futures, and can protect themselves from trafficking, sexual exploitation, and HIV.
