WHO WE ARE
The American Ornithologists’ Union is the cornerstone of professional ornithology in the Americas. Founded almost 125 years ago, it is now the largest ornithological society in the New World with a membership of 3500 professional ornithologists, students and amateur bird enthusiasts.
Members enjoy access to two of the world’s pre-eminent scientific journals, The Auk and Ornithological Monographs, as well as the AOU Check-list of North American Birds , the definitive taxonomic treatment for the region. We have well-attended annual meetings showcasing advances in ornithology and providing networking opportunities. We also sponsor research grants, awards recognizing outstanding scientific achievement, and white papers on the science underlying bird conservation.
