Land rights, land access and socio-economic rights are critical issues in South Africa. Denial of rights in land and dispossession of land from black South Africans was one of the principle mechanisms for economic and political oppression under apartheid. Addressing this history is fundamental to redressing the legacy of apartheid and creating a basis for sustainable and just development in South Africa today.
