ASHA aims at promoting and supporting community based action and understanding of non-conventional alternative resources in finding the answer to the settlements problems of underprivileged. It strives for promotion of community based participation for provision of infrastructure in the urban settlements.
During the last two decades, ASHA has pursued several issues at policy, strategic and field levels. Looking back, ASHA has been able to make a dent in several key areas. However, to enlarge the scope of activities and keep with the globalisation and liberalisation trends, the Association is now poised to work on new avenues and strike new partnerships.
At `asha` most of the projects and action programmes are sponsored and volunteered by members. The projects are usually concerned with the employments, settlement, environment, and related housing problems which require certain urgent attention and action. The Association maintains a low-budget modus operandi. One unique feature of asha`s style of functioning is community involvement at all levels of the project : problem identification, planning, policy, execution and post-execution.
