The Bird Banders of North East New South Wales was formed to allow bird researchers to share their knowledge and skills. One of the aims of the group is to form a number of co-operative banding stations to enable banders to assist each other on projects. It is hoped that bird research in this region will benefit from this group co-operation.
An important consequence of group banding, apart from the friendly exchange that ensues, is the sharing of banding data and ideas which in turn will lead to improved methods and results.
Training new banders
Bander training is an on-going process with the skills required needing constant polishing. Group banding provides an excellent environment to give the new bander a confidence in handling birds and so reduces bird stress, which is the corner stone of the banding process
