CND campaigns non-violently to rid the world of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction and to create genuine security for future generations.
Merseyside CND is part of the National and Worldwide Campaign to get rid of nuclear weapons and power.
Trident is the British Nuclear weapons system (we have four nuclear armed and powered submarines).
We view the plans of the US to build a Missile Defence System (Star Wars) as the most dangerous development since President Reagan’s similar plans in the 1980s. We are therefore campaigning against UK participation in these plans, i.e. the use of two sites in Yorkshire, Menwith Hill and Fylingdales.
We campaign against weapons of indiscriminate mass destruction, whether chemical, biological, depleted uranium, cluster bombs and landmines.
We support international treaties to eliminate or control these weapons.
We oppose the arms trade, supporting efforts to transfer arms production to socially useful products.
We oppose warfare in general as a way of solving international problems, believing that other methods should be pursued through diplomatic channels, particularly the United Nations.
