CRANC’s principle aim is to declare the ACT a “Nuclear Free Territory†and for Australia to leave uranium in the ground. Nuclear is being touted by the industry as the answer to climate change, but of course the solutions lie in renewables and energy efficiency measures. Even if we doubled nuclear power output by 2050, it would still only reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about five per cent — less than one tenth of the reductions required to stabilise atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases.
