The electric industry faces many challenges, for instance, demand for electricity and other forms of energy will remain close to or above supply levels for many years, and the industry will be further liberalized. These new trends will greatly change how electricity is generated and distributed in the 21st century. Some changes will be dramatic, marking a complete break with the past as the electric industry begins offering users a wide range of services, and as smaller generating infrastructure is constructed in many places. In addition, the industry will have to adapt, both globally and locally, to meet controls that are designed to mitigate environmental problems, such as global warming.
Mission
The Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI) was established in 1951 as a comprehensive research organization for the electric utility industry. Its mission is to conduct fundamental, pioneering research on the electric industry and to offer the results of this research to the public for the benefit of all.
Objectives
The institute is working to prepare the electric power industry for these major changes, conducting research that is guided by three objectives:
* Cost Reduction and Ensuring Reliability
* Creation of Integrated Energy Services
* Harmonizing Energy and Environmental Priorities
