Transrural Trust works to reduce poverty in remote rural mountain communities in low-income countries. It does this by helping small-scale family-based added-value enterprises to make creative use of natural mountain resources, building on the rarity value of mountain products such as speciality honeys, rare herbs, plant-based textiles and drinks, sheep and goat products, folk art and tourism. It also helps families and groups to represent their interests vis-a-vis government authorities and decision-makers, and does this by working to strengthen representative democratic associations that can access information, link government bodies with civil society organisations and empower people not protected by employment rights.
