About our organization:
The West Virginia Section of American Water Works Association is an affiliate of the national American Water Works Association. The state organization received its charter from the Association in the 1920s. There are currently over 260 members in the state. Our membership is comprised of operators, engineers, regulatory agency personnel, equipment suppliers, and managers of water treatment works facilities. The major function of the Association is to assist and educate our membership in matters related to the water industry by sponsoring classes throughout the state and by helping our members in all areas of the operations of their facilities.
AWWA is the authoritative resource for knowledge, information, and advocacy to improve the quality and supply of water in North America and beyond. AWWA is the largest organization of water professionals in the world. AWWA advances public health, safety and welfare by uniting the efforts of the full spectrum of the entire water community. Through our collective strength we become better stewards of water for the greatest good of the people and the environment.
Who We Are
The American Water Works Association [AWWA] is an international nonprofit scientific and educational society dedicated to the improvement of drinking water quality and supply. AWWA is defined by six core competencies, through which we communicate and interact with all of our audiences. Together, the competencies distinguish AWWA as the authoritative resource for knowledge, information, and advocacy to improve the quality and supply of drinking water in North America and beyond.
Founded in 1881, AWWA is the largest organization of water supply professionals in the world. Its more than 57,000 members represent the full spectrum of the drinking water community: treatment plant operators and managers, scientists, environmentalists, manufacturers, academicians, regulators, and others who hold genuine interest in water supply and public health. Membership includes more than 4,700 utilities that supply water to roughly 180 million people in North America.

AWWA is the water professional’s resource for continuing education and professional development. Materials and instruction are available through a variety of media, from traditional seminars to online courses, teleconferences and webcasts.
