About WWT
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust is the largest international wetland conservation charity in the UK.
Mission
WWTs mission is to conserve wetlands and their biodiversity. These are vitally important for the quality and maintenance of all life.
Who are we?
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is the UK’s only specialist wetland conservation charity with a national network of wetland visitor centres. WWT is a world leader for the protection of swans, geese, ducks and flamingos and the wetlands they inhabit.
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) was founded in 1946 by the artist and naturalist Sir Peter Scott at Slimbridge in Gloucestershire.
What we do
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust works throughout the UK and worldwide to:
* Save and restore ponds, lakes, rivers, marshes and other wetlands
* Save threatened ducks, geese, swans, flamingos and other waterbirds
* Protect wetland wildlife and plants
* Enrich people’s lives, through learning about and being close to nature
WWT engages and inspires people, governments and businesses to take direct action to save wetlands and their wildlife and provides the tools that enable them to do so. We also encourage the creation of wetland centres around the world, inspired by our example.
Our wetland centres have welcomed over twenty million people over the years, introducing children and adults alike to the wonders of wetland birds from all over the world and the habitats they live in.
Conservation
WWT conserves wetland species and their habitats worldwide through science and public learning-based Conservation Programmes and by sharing our expertise nationally and internationally.
Recreation
All nine WWT visitor centres around the UK are open to the public 364 days a year and hold a yearly calendar of events for visitors of all ages to enjoy! Visit your local centre today and get closer to wildlife!
Education
WWT is passionate about sharing knowledge, understanding and appreciation of wildfowl, wetlands and nature conservation with all visitors, and to this end all of our centres run learning and educational programmes throughout the year.
