A nation isolated from much of the outside world and extremely sparsely populated, Mongolia experiences below freezing temperatures for much of the year. Dependant on livestock and agriculture, around 36% of the population most Mongolians live in poverty.
In the midst of dire physical and economic circumstances, the church has become a great force for good. Increasing in size and scope, the church reaches out to the surrounding communities. World Relief partners with the local church, Joint Christian Services and the Mongolia Evangelical Alliance to help empower those in poverty while strengthening church.
Promoting income generation for individuals through business training and microloans, World Relief and partners offer opportunities for families to take control of their livelihoods. MINA, a Mongolian microfinance institution, receives World Relief technical support and funding. Offering start up loans to entrepreneurs, mostly women, MINA gives families a chance to start and sustain businesses and move out of the subsistence lifestyle they seem trapped in
