York Goes Green (also known as the York Energy Efficiency Committee) is an independent, ad-hocgroup of local citizens. We welcome new members, and invite allinterested individuals to attend our meetings, which are generally heldon the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm at the York PublicLibrary.
Our mission is to respond to the global warming crisis bypromoting energy efficiency, alternative energy, and environmentalinitiatives throughout the town of York, Maine. The organization willstrive to employ consensus-building techniques to work toward thismission. Our members recognize the following core beliefs asinstrumental in achieving this mission:
- Global warming is a non-partisan issue, and as such we will strive to build consensus in our efforts
- Addressing global warming will take time and every little bit helps
- The solution to global warmingwill depend largely on the youth of the world, and as such educatingand working with our youth is critical
- People want to get involved withthis issue, and we want to engage the community as much as possible andmake this an enjoyable, social organization
Objectives:
In order to achieve our mission, the York Energy Efficiency Committee will work toward the following objectives:
- Work with the Board of Selectmen to develop policy recommendations and pilot projects for town buildings
- Educate the citizens of York on actions that help reduce global warming
- Be a social networking organization
